Patio door/Window Security Grilles.

Was wondering if anyone has has security grilles installed in their homes, for windows and doors.

Unfortunately they has been a couple of burglaries on our street, on both occasions they entered the garden and smashed the glass of the back doors to enter.

They pretty ugly though.

I once worked in a house which had them throughout the ground floor (back and front). The previous owner would leave the house vacant for weeks. The new owner soon removed them and made the rear garden more difficult to access.

Oh, and none of the grills were "key alike", each had a seperate key. It was a double fronted detached property.

Wouldn't be my first choice looks wise, also they're not cheap. Biggest concern in my mind is fire exit.

But the piece of mind is worth it though, we're all currently on high alert around here.

So not too popular an option then. Surprising; glass doors are particularly susceptible to break ins, it would seem.

Maybe go down the Spanish type route where the grills are more ornate and then you can leave the doors and windows open at night in the warmer weather.

Spanish burglars attach a chain to the towbar of the 4x4 they stole earlier, and yank the bars off.
