Paving up to house

Looking to re-pave the garden in the coming months.

Is it a good idea to put a gravel boarder between the house and the first line of slabs to aid drainage? Or should I pave up to the property and angle away?

Either is fine provided the finished surface is 150mm below your damp proof course. The path should not be drained towards the house.
