Pay joint freeholder?

Hello,

Considering an extension to my ground floor masionette in the future but was just curious about something.

If I am extending and increasing the value of my property do I need to pay the joint freeholder anything I.e what marriage value is to leaseholders or compensation of some sort?

Just to clarify we are joint free holders with the flat upstairs.
