Basically, Im wanting to build a extension on the back of my house! The problem is my ex council house is covered in the grey wet dry pebbledash (thats what I fink its called???)

So when I get my extension built i would like it all to look the same put obviously look nicer.

Would it cost alot to remove the old stuff and put new stuff on, what is rendering? and if I got the old stuff took off would it effect my house in terms of pipework and damp etc?

wet dash, yes n no, some old wetdash comes off easy , some dont, should,nt effect pipe work.

The cost would depend on how much are you willing to do, say you were willing to take the old render off yourself. your going to save in a couple of days of labour charges.

Get some local firms around, get some quotes and if your willing to strip it yourself tell them and ask for a quote for each way, see what the difference is and if you think its worth your while. Talk with the company you choose. Remember most companies are going to want a scoffold erected around the house, this is usually quoted for in the price. If you do want to strip it yourself, ask them to have the scaffold erected for you to work on it will be so much easier. just remember that when the scaffold is erected it is usually done on a time basis...so if it takes you a few weeks rather that a couple of days to strip...you will incur an extra charge.

Render is a cement and sand mix, and its just usually luck as to if its easy or hard to take off.
