I have never had the conception that it will increase horsepower. From personal experience of using OEM, factor and the "performance" brands I have, in fact, found a difference in how the engine runs (in terms of stable idling and smoother revving).
Like many things it's each to their own but I have 2 "high powered" cars (both 250BHP+) that I have done away with the OEM filter as I find it better with the Piper Cross ones.
If I want more horse power then I will use an enlarged TB or have the inlet free flowed or use race cams. I'm not under any mis-conception led by a manufacturers claims.
