Hi,

We would like a pergola on some decking in the garden, about 5m by 3m and ideally with a solid roof.

What type of timbers would be best for this?

We want something attractive and durable but can't break the bank on something for garden.

Any tips or suggestions would be most welcome as we haven't got a clue.

Thanks

Treated softwood would be fine. The roof will protect it, my dad had a similar thing at his old house was there for 25 years till he sold it and was still there when he visited his old neighbor last year.

For the roofing plastic glazing sheets with bars look nice, I would avoid corrugated if you can.

You probably be looking at around £1200 in materials.

What base you are installing it on also makes a huge difference

Thanks. It's going to be installed on patio slabs and a bit of border I need to clear.

I have a pergola (sort of) over my patio that has grape vines growing over it.
It's a sort of lean-to, a timber mounted along a wall, and a set of "goal posts" 3m away.

I buried the posts about 24" down and used postcrete.
If I were you, I would do some sketches and figure out a plan.
Don't try to build a pergola onto of a load of decking
