I'm looking to build a garden pergola.
It will be around 16ft x 10ft and I will set the corner posts in slightly so they will be spaced around 14ft x 8ft apart.
I intend to use 4x2 for the rafters running front to back, probably spaced every 2ft so 9 in total.
The horizontal beam I'd like to run in one continuous length of 16ft and would like to avoid having a further 2 uprights to support it in the middle. An unsupported span of 16ft of 4x2 seems a little optimistic - what size timber should I be using for this?
