Hi ,
My garden is at the lowest point , as compared to all other nearby gardens. Due to this I have water clogged patio, on top of that there are no drains installed in my back garden.
United utilities paid a visit and suggested abt drains to be installed.
We have got quotes from people to install drains, and connect them to existing pipes underground. Do I need to take permissions for this kind of work? And if yes, how long would the whole process take?
All the tradesman who quoted said I don't need any permission, but just wanted to be clear on this one. Don't want neighbours telling off ..

Can't build a soakaway got clay soil that's the reason water from other gardens come in mine. As theirs is not absorbed in as well

How much cost is involved for permission and how much time?
The underground pipe us in my garden, it connects rainwater pipe coming down from roof.

I think you could still build a soakaway. Maybe some trenches around the edge of your garden with soakaway tunnels/crates?

You need to work out the volume of water you need to be able to absorb based on the run off. You can also look to shutter up the side of your garden that is the source of your water problem.

Maybe a bit extreme, but how about digging out the garden and laying soakaway crates, then putting artificial grass over the top - although it won't stop water flowing down from the neighbours gardens. Guess the cost of removing that much soil will be more than connecting to existing drainage though!

Thanks for the reply guys. Will need to speak with neighbour, and put some retaining walls to stop the inflow. I can then handle downpour with soakaway in my garden.

You can take steps to manage the water but you can't stop water that naturally flows down to your land in a way that causes flooding to your neighbours land.

I was thinking the same - how you going to prevent water coming down your way some 0.5m to 1m below soil across the width or length of your garden?
How much is this roughly going to cost you to get sorted?

I m planning to take up my garden one level higher, bring it to neighbours. That would stop flow from neighbours. Current diff is about 3-4 inches. He has paved garden, no proper drains, just slope towards manhole, which happens to be on my side of the fence. I also suspect he has a soakaway, in his garden which is currently blocked.
Planning to get rid of old soil( clay ) from.my garden, re surface with more permeable stuff underground. So it can handle rainfall.

There are some rainwater water pipes are in my garden, which r underground, are they deemed private then that case? Sorry for being thick, but I m not very clear on this.
If I plan to go to for permission, how long would that take approx? And do they accept such requests? I m facing flood situation when it rains heavy. So wanted get this sorted sooner.
