Petrol strimmer spindle not spinning

Having a problem with my Draper petrol strimmer. The engine is firing up but the brush cutter is not spinning.
There is a metal rod spindle running all of the way through the shaft to the engine.
I’ve narrowed the problem down to the 2 pictures.

In the first picture, A (think that’s the clutch) is spinning so all good there. When I attach it, picture B isn’t spinning at all. Feels like A and B aren’t connecting, and hence nothing downwards from B is spinning.

Any ideas? Hopefully something simple as I’ve got a load of weeds that needs trimming this week

So you ascertained that the clutch spider spins. Does the clutch plate on the driven shaft spin freely? and the hub you label with B also spins freely with it?
