Hi, my 406 brakes have been sticking for a while. Only way to release them is to hook my foot under the pedal and pull it up, not so safe while moving! I've had the master cylinder changed and even adjusted, also had the servo changed but to no avail. Don't want to scrap the car as its in good shape otherwise. Can anyone help??

I'm not sure. It has been checked by a couple of mechanics, no one mentioned a return spring. Peugeot have had a look too, they said the master cyl would need adjusting. How could I check for a return spring?

It'll be a spring on the pedal.
If thats not the problem, then the only other thing to check is the slider pins on the brake calipers. If they have started to rust, then the brakes will bind, but it shouldn't be this if you can lift the pedal to stop it

Is the master cylinder on the nearside of the engine bay? If so, look for a sticking linkage on the transfer rods from the pedal to the master cylinder.

;)
