I had the same thing happen to me with a bottle of whisky in a box, the security tag thing was still on the top and even in the vice it was a right pain to get off and was a mangled mess by the time I got it off. Problem was it was a birthday present for someone and looked like I had nicked it..
How so. Not an expert. We usually go for sirloin with decent fat and marbling.

I was leaving Asda the other day and had steak in my trolley. I do the scan & go. I knew it would beep when leaving the scan & go area and at the main exit. So I said to a staff member 'this is going to beep' and at that point they normally take the packs and rub them on that thingy. This guy just said 'don't worry about it mate, just go and if it beeps at the main exit just keep going'. Which I did. There was no security guard and I wonder if they would have come after me. I had my receipt ready just in case!
I suppose my saying to him was enough proof from his pov that I wasn't at it.

The marbling is not the issue its the flat shape like its been run over by a car. I go through the fillits to find ones that are more like a hockey puck shape.
The very best steak I know of that is readily available is aldi waygu (yes I know its not full blown waygu) but its never failed to be a good one but even then I look through all the packs for either sirloin or rib eye and some have more wagu marbling than others. I find that people do not know what they are doing and so leave the best ones with the extra marbling on the shelf --- for me.

I thought it would spring back into shape when the vacuum pack comes off.
With sirloin etc. most people buy the one which looks leanest.
Same with pork chops. I love a really fatty, marbled pork chop probably more than I like steak.

Years ago I bought couple of pairs of Levis in US because they were much cheaper over there. Then just chucked them in my suitcase. When I got home I found they both still had the security tags on. Obviously I couldn't take them back to get them removed so had to do it myself. Was a right faff involving pliers and other tools. Had to be very careful not to damage the denim.
Strange thing to say, 'cos that there fillet steak has almost everything you should be looking for in a good fillet steak.
Why do you choose puck shaped? Do they cook better?
