Hi. I've owned this m/c >15 years. Suddenly, the water is way over temp - steam everywhere!
I'm guessing that this is a thermostat issue - but which one? the spares sites list three for this m/c. And where is it situated on the m/c?
Is there somewhere I can download a (free) service manual for this m/c?
Thanks

Usually they will have 3 thermostats for the different temperatures the machine operates at.

Normally mounted towards the bottom of the drum either underneath or on the rear.

Does it overheat on all programmes and temp settings or just one.

Hi & thanks for the reply
The m/c has 5 progs; 1 cold; 1@65 degrees & 3 @ 55 degrees.
Both 65 degree & 55 degree progs overheat (steam & rubber smells)
I've located 2 thermostats in a white plastic housing, attached to a 90 degree bend rubber pipe. (Front LHS behind a plastic plinth panel)
1 has a red spot, the other a white spot.
There appears to be a further (safety?) thermostat, mounted on the heating element.
Unsure whether to suspect the thermostats now - they can't ALL have failed .... can they?

I,ve removed and tested all three thermostats;
All three showed continuity at room temp. ie closed position.
Only the 55 degree (red) thermostat opened when held against a boiling kettle.
The white 65 degree stat and the safety stat were both unaffected by heat & appear to be u/s.
I'm not sure whether this explains the m/c over-temping at both 55 & 65 degree wash cycles.
I guess the logical thing to do would be to replace the faulty stats?
