Mrs Stem wants a new bathroom, so despite my protestations that Avocado Green will be back in fashion soon, it looks like being my next project.

I thought I would have a look in the Wiki at projects that others have done. I came across a wetroom by Pilot Pete which looks great, but I was a bit disturbed by the photographs of the spot lights that seem to be enclosed in some sort of galvanised metal enclosure containing a junction box with exposed wires and a transformer. The enclosure doesn't appear to be earthed at all. What concerns me is that it looks to be a proprietary product which he calls a fire guard, and according to Pete was installed by an electrician as he didn't feel confident to work on the electrics.

What do you think? Pilot Pete's Wetroom

Hmm, I'd have liked to see that earthed as well ...

But while it may be a proprietary product, it's actually just off the shelf ventilation ducting - specifically a short piece of spiral duct, with a blanking cap on the top, and a wrong size cap with holes drilled in it at the bottom.

Ducting : http://ductmann.co.uk/product/1117/spiral-ducting
Caps : http://ductmann.co.uk/product/1124/female-to-male-end-cap

Given that the duct comes in 3m lengths, probably not great if you only have one or two to do, but if you have a lot to do, then it doesn't work out too bad. And if you want them sealed, you just apply sealant on assembly, or put (proper) duct tape round the outside of the joint.

It took a while before I found it.

There are a number of points to make.
1) Clearly from red exposed core before 17th Edition as colours are wrong.
2) Cores should not be exposed anyway however on to 3.
3) If whole thing is covered and needs tools to access then whole area could be considered as enclosure so it would be hard to say not within rules however very shoddy workmanship.
4) If the inverter had been mounted outside the metal tube then it would have complied.
5) Today whole thing would be RCD protected however since pre-2008 that one may not be?

I do find the leaving of posts for many years without review is some what flawed where some thing may have been OK when posted but no longer complies.

My daughter has a wet room in her flat in Turkey and I have looked at it and realised under UK regulations it is not considered as a bathroom as no bath or shower it is as the name says a wet room. There would seem to be a shower head in the one shown but one has to be very careful when criticising as it may not be considered as a bathroom.

The date on post is 2007 but wiring of those colours was stopped in 2006 so clearly it was some old material posted up.

This does of course raise the question should all posts pre-2008 be deleted or at least vetted to see if information is still correct? The person who posted it may no longer be even living so no good relying on person who posted to remove or modify.
