Today I was planning on doing a friend a favour, making a small addition to a ring final, nice quick simple job right?
Well I thought so, but then I did the ring continuity test and I got; L = 0.6 ohm, N = open circuit, E = about 100 ohms, - Hmmm....
So I went looking....
Under a floorboard I found this...

...and under the tape...

...so then I traced the cable to the next socket so as to replace the whole length and I found this....

...it's 1.5mm2 flex, so I traced it to here...

... and under the floor just below that I also found this...

...yes, that's a 3" nail. It was only 1/2" into the joist though, so the JB was just hanging there about 2" away from the joist.
That's when I gave up and replaced the whole ring final. That still counts as a repair, right, not a new circuit?
