Piece of plastic inside UPVC window frame? What is it?

Hi all

One of my UPVC windows was not shutting properly and I found this piece of plastic inside the frame which the window was being caught on. I removed it and the window now shuts properly. What is it, is it necessary? I've not noticed this on previous house windows before

They are approx 1 year old (new build house).

I tried to google it but it didnt come up with anything
