Hello all, I've got my fencing job on at the weekend, basically renewing all the posts (4x4 8f) and screwing the 50mm thick panels on.

I have 100mm long 7mm wood bolts, would you advise drilling a pilot hole or not?.

They say they are self drilling but I'd be annoyed if the post split..

Thanks for any comments!.

I used similar screws when fixing my fence and had no problems just screwing straight in

Thanks all I'll pilot through the panels only.

I'm trying to save this fence, it was built as one continuous fence so got my work cut out re-posting and cutting it into individual panels.

Both sides and back to do..

Current fence looks like feather edge, why are you using heavy 50mm boards.?

I'm cutting it into 6ft removable panels, its been built as one continuous fence with the feather edge nailed 40mm battens.

All the posts are shot so it has to come to bits one way or another..

It's over 70ft long on both sides, the fence structure is sound just the posts are gone so I'd rather salvage what can!.

Can't post any picturs as forum comesnup with "security error", given up trying!.
