After disassembling a couple of elbow joints to perfect the pipe lengths / layout, the pipe inserts have stayed in the elbow. I've pulled the collet but they're not coming out. Any ideas?

Alternatively, unscrew the fitting all the way so it's dismantled, they're easy to get out then. Just make sure you put it back together properly afterwards...

Or cut the pipe the right length first time.

You run the risk of damaging the O ring every time you push it together, as well as leaving a score in the pipe where the seal will be.

Alternatively, just leave them in.
The pipe will still push over them when reconnecting. Just make sure that you push it fully home of course.

Note that one of the functions of the insert is to ease the O ring over the otherwise blunt end of the pipe - pushing the pipe in without the sleeve on risks damaging the O ring.

get some gash pipe. chamfer then smooth the outside circumference of the pipe, then cut off ~12mm of pipe.

Push your short length of pipe into fitting, over the insert, using spare pipe to push it home over insert and thru O-ring

Withdraw spare pipe, compress collet, grasp protruding end of insert with longnose and it should come out easily without knackering O-ring

Good point. I was thinking of avoiding potential damage when withdrawing the insert if it doesn't come out with the pipe. The inserts aren't shaped to ease over the O ring when withdrawing.

Unless they've changed the design, you can't 'unscrew the nut' on Speedfit.

Haven't seen one of them from years even though they're still made
