Plane door with sander

Hey guys.

My Planer has gone kaput :S
Will an electric sander work with 120 grit? How long do you think that will take?
I want to remove about 8mm in total from top and bottom.
Should I invest in course sand paper?
I need to get these doors in quick before the kids damage them :S

That's a lot to sand.
Buy a new plane

No. Sanders round over ("dub off") edges, even when used with coarse grit papers. P120 is a finishing grit, so attempting to size with it will take forever and a day. If you are lucky....
