Hello everyone. I am planning a small hallway storage nook for coats, shoes and bags, roughly 1.2 metres wide, with a bench seat and a couple of open shelves above it. I have some reclaimed timber boards saved from an old shed clear-out, but I am tempted to use new pine instead for a cleaner, more even finish.
My main worries with the reclaimed boards are hidden nails, uneven thickness and how well they will take a hardwearing finish in a hallway that gets a lot of muddy boots in winter. With new pine, I worry it might look a bit flat and dent too easily. Has anyone built something similar and found a good middle ground, for example a new pine frame with reclaimed boards just for the bench top?
I would also welcome thoughts on fixing it solidly to a plasterboard wall with a stud behind it, and on a finish that is easy to wipe down without looking too shiny. Thanks in advance for any practical tips.
