Hi all. I have a gap of about 3 or 4 foot with a drop behind it. I want to fill it in so my toddler won't fall down it when in the garden. If I plant hedge will it establish itself this year enough to protect him from falling or do I need to come up with another idea?

I don't see a hedge stopping an inquisitive toddler.
Some kind of fence would be needed. Even sheep wire/chicken wire/plastic grid joined from edge to edge to the existing structures

A hedge takes time to grow. A car park at work uses beech (I think) and after about three years after planting metre high "sapplings " the grounds team did some hedge laying where some branches are half cut then bent to mesh into a barrier
