Last time I had some new plaster to paint, I started off with some plaster sealer stuff from B&Q. It was basically pretty watery stuff, seemed to do the job, but the problem was that it was pretty much clear, without colour. This meant, I reckon, that more of the subsequent colour coats (light colours) was required, to cover over the darker plaster uniformly.

I'd like to find a plaster sealer or equivalent that is at least white, so that the subsequent light colour (or plain white for ceiling) will not require so many coats.

Couldn't see anything obvious in screwfix, which makes me think that most tradesmen just use watered-down matt white.

What do the "plaster sealers" do that matt paint doesn't? And these claim to be ideal for new plaster, and quite cheap... anyone know anything about them:

Thanks.

There is rarely a need ro use a plaster sealer on new skim, a simple mist coat will suffice. Akzo Nobel (Dulux) in their wisdom along with others will tend to recommend this type of product in order to con the public into buying another product.

The formulation of the term latex has come from the USA and is claimed to allow the walls and indeed woodwork to breathe after application, yet research so far has proved that to be inconclusive.
