Hi All,

We are upgrading our old ceiling by putting on new plasterboards on top of the old ones.

Can someone tell us what is the correct thickness of plasterboard is recommended for this.

Thanks

9mm should be enough for overboarding, its a bit lighter and cheaper, but if your ceiling has really gone, go for 12.5mm for a bit of strength.

12.5mm should be good. I am putting up a new 12.5mm plasterboard ceiling next week.

Definitely have help on hand, 8 foot by 4 foot 12.5mm plasterboard sheets are a bit too heavy to hold with one hand whilst drywall screwing with the other!

Make 2 dead man handle to prop it up in position (T-shape timber frame) then you're free to use the tool.
