Plasterboard joints

Hi all, been fitting a stud wall today and used taper edge boards with the idea of filling the joints and decorating,
Some nerve, this is a plastering/rendering forum not a tape & fill forum; shame on you.

Many who subscribe & practice this sort of thing will advise paper tape but you can use glass fibre mesh tape, it’ll be just as good if not better. Make sure you seal those boards before decorating or some poor unsuspecting soul is going to have problems in the future. ;)

Well as a shamefull person who used to use the tape and join method due to being afraid of skimming I can tell you that there are several things to use. tapered joins are best taped with fiber class scrim tape, the ends of the boards which are square are best covered by bedding paper tape over them and runnung the excess mud out of them, the tape has a ridge down the middle for feathering out from. internal corners are treated in a similar manner external corners can either be done by having two tapers together and an angle bead used, if this option is not possible or was not thought of then a paper tape with metal strips attached should be bedded onto the corner with mud, the excess being run out from behind the tape and the corner feathered into the board. Be ready to do alot of dusty sanding for ages on end if you want it to look any good.

After all that nonsense you would have skimmed the wall and have a stronger and more durable finish which stands more of a chance of being able to be repaired should it get a knock.
