My downstairs toilet is outside on the porch. The porch has a grey plastic fake looking lead roof.

The problem is even with the heating on it is like being outside and you freeze your particulars. The heat seems to be going out the roof as I don't think it has any insulation.

To help along can I just put another layer of plasterboard up? Any recommendations? As at the moment we go upstairs defeating object of having the downstairs toilet.

2 options, remove the ceiling insulate and renew ceiling skim etc.

Or use insulated plasterboard on top of existing and skim.

Will use some insulated plasterboard as may sort it out.

Would you recommend a thickness and brand in particular?

Thanks for the response

I dont know what size your ceiling is but the boards must be staggered and screwed into joists.

Thanks again.

The ceiling is only 1.7m long at its longest, and 1.1m wide at its widest, so is tiny wc.

Tapping around the only places it is screwed in is at the edge of the walls. It will only need one board to do it all, so no joins and was going to caulk the edges with the wall, and fill the screw holes.

What does concern me with the weight of the board and no screwing in the middle is sagging?

Of course the existing board has been fixed throughout and of course you will need to fix the new into the existing joists. Stop being lazy and do a proper job.

There will probably be a joist mid span...probably :?

Failing that dab the board with gripfill or similar before screwing up.

Thanks alastair, will get a tester to make sure first, if that doesn't detect anything will use grip fill.

3 year old house, persimmon built, nothing surprises me!

Be aware that insulation will not magically warm up a room. If the room is not heated, then it will remain cold.

If the house is only three years old, it should already be insulated

It has a small radiator in there and where everywhere else is warm that room is cold so was guessing the heat was escaping.

When we had our first winter here they came back out as it was so cold and the solution was to put more silicone around the electricity box, which did help to be fair but still silly cold.

About the back foot is inside the house and the sound from that is different than the front so guessed that is better insulated than the front?

All external walls will/should be insulated to the same standard regardless of the elevation.
