I have an old ceiling which previously had a horrible textured paper on. I have stripped this. There are a few cracks. I have been told that the finish would be better if it was replastered than lined with paper. Is this the case???

third eye is right , u cant beat a good plasterin job for that pefect finish, ahh nice flat sufaces , good sound bonding.

but if the suface of the ceiling is sound ie no lumps , bulges, huge cracks, or recent leaks u could use gyprocs easy fill - on the cracks, let it dry n light sand if u have filled it to level, line the ceiling and paint, oh i would seal the ceiling fist with a solent sealer paint - stops leaching etc.

if u do this well it will look as good as plaster, but it takes time n patience - n a good diy level, if u answered no pay the right price and get a plasterer.
