plastic Bath restoration is it posible?

I would like to know if there is any way of restoring a fibreglass (plastic) bath.. there are a few chips in it and some scratches, and it would be much easier to keep the bath that we have rather than change it, I looked on-line and found bath paint, but was told by a plumber it would MELT the plastic, is there anything else that would work?
