What does everyone think about plastic pipe for central heating? I've heard mixed reports from various engineers, i know the older stuff that wasn't barriered left a system prone to sludge but is the new stuff better? I prefer copper personally but i'm seeing it more and more these days and i'm not always sure on the best advice to give to cusomers.

I use it sometimes underfloor, where I can access its full length to clip it level. The sludge tends to build up in plastic pipe where it sags, so level clipping is essential. Any pipework that shows is either copper, plain or chrome. :)

It's very tempting to use as it's so convienient! i'm not sure exactly how good the barrier is against oxygen though, and i assume the fittings aren't barriered anyway.

if you consider the amount of oxygen ingested by faulty pipe layouts - I would consider a few plastic pipes in a system to be no problem at all - with a dose of inhibitor  - Not sure about sludge collecting, not installed enough plastic before I retired. I used it in my last house for ease of installation and lagged it before I pushed it under the floor .
