Newbie here, so please be nice!!

Got a call this morning from my mum to say her boiler wasn't working. Dispatched the boyfriend who said that water pressure was zero. He filled the boiler up again but it immediately emptied. It will not hold any water. Waiting for a friend who used to be a plumber to have a look, but hoping someone can shed some light on it. It's a little over 2 years and it's a Worcester combi. Any ideas????!

Got a leak somewhere! First port of call is to check the pressure relief, (copper pipe going through the outside wall from under the boiler), does this discharge water outside when attempting to fill the system?

If the PRV has been leaking these can freeze up and block the outlet vent pipe.

If the expansion vessel is failed then something can explode if the boiler is then fired up.

That happened to one of my customers and burst the expansion vessel. He never gets the boiler serviced and was aware of the trail of rusty water from the outlet where it had been leaking for weeks!

Yep. Other half said that when he filled the boiler, it came straight back out of that copper pipe outside. Can't see any leaking pipes either??!

I think there might have been a little water dripping out of that copper pipe, but the boiler is only 2 years old???

How expensive is it too fix, if thats the problem?

can you heat that pipe with loads of hot water, or air?

if your lucky it will dissipate back to the valve and defrost it and you will beable to refill again.

It does not matter how new the boiler is.

The PRV can leak at any time if the system water is dirty or the boiler is over pressurised.

A dripping PRV vent pipe is something that should be addressed as soon as its noticed as otherwise continual topping up the pressure will cause the system water to become sludged up and do further damage.

Right, so what do I do to rectify it?

replace it, unlikey your gona get that done before xmas, so try what i suggested, if it doesnt leak to bad it might last you over xmas.

Thats usually by replacement but sometimes they can be cleaned.

If the system water is dirty then that needs to be flushed or power flushed as appropriate for the condition.
