Please help interpret this wiring diagram

I have a PIR that has the following wiring diagram:



Am I correct that this needs to be wired with a 3 core no earth wire? What is "A" in this diagram?

N - Neutral
L - Live
A - Switch live??

Yes, A is the Switched Live to the light.

A CPC(earth wire) may not be required but must be present in the cable.


Edited - depending on the route you may need four core.

@EFLImpudence thanks, what's best practice for an unused earth? cut it back, tape it up, or just put a long sheath over it?

Don't cut it. Tape or long sheath - or connector block if there is room.

Just make sure it can't touch anything.

The cable's earth conductor (cpc) should still be connected to earth at the supply end. If the device at the other end of the cable is double insulated (does not have/need an earth connection) then the earth conductor should be terminated as detailed above.
