Hi all..

Could someone please give me some advise..

I have had an oak worktop fitted today, and love the pale colour, the question is, what oil can I use to preserve this colour.

I tried Liberon Tung oil on some off cuts, but turns the wood yellowish, not the look I want..

I am also after a matt finish like the tung oil has given..

Thanks in advance.. :?:

Any oil will tend to darken the oak, try a bit of danish oil or osmo but I don't think you will find it much lighter

The big worry is that the underside of the top should have had several coats of oil BEFORE it was fitted otherwise you will get problems with cupping if you only oil the top.

Hi there..

Thanks for the reply.
The surface hasn't been screwed down yet, purely for the reason that I can oil it properly, all for sides..

Thank you for the words of advice/caution though..

Back to the drawing board with the oil then..
