Currently I am redoing my basement and would like to section off the left side of the basement. I am now trying to understand the best way to redo my stairs.. This is my idea, someone with more knowledge will surely know if this sounds ok or not.
Cut current treads so they are equal to the stringers.
Install riser boards
Cut treads back to riser so all is flush
Then buy a finished stair tread and riser board. I believe home depot sells a kit and go right over the top of these.
My plan is to have a wall on one side of the stairway. Please anyone chime in if this sounds ok? I appreciate the help.
