I got a quote from a plumber to service boiler, add inhibitor and clean filter.
He came round and I didn’t have a spanner/ clamp (he didn’t have one either) to open the filter and he also mentioned that the filter isolating valves were difficult to close without leaks. So he didn’t clean the filter.
He then left me with the inhibitor and we said goodbye.
Should he still have added the inhibitor?

What make of filter? He was probabley going to add the inhibitor via the filter. Buy a spanner / key from ebay. I have about four different ones on my van.

Not the point. He should have had one of those oil grip one size fits all things.

And not advisable to do himself definitely if the plumber suspects leaks

The older Magnaclean filters red handled isolating valves were prone to leaks. They do a repair kit for the handles, they also do all the o ring seals for the filter, which should be changed regularly. A capable handy person should be able to clean a filter and add inhibitor.

Do you have a towel rad fitted in bathroom ?

Excuse my ignorance, but whats the relevance of having a towel rad?

it is the easiest way to introduce chemicals into a system turn it off remove blank from top of rad remove couple of pints of water and add chemicals 2 minute job with no danger of a leaking filter
