we have a constant whooshing noise in our mains water pipes. Have turned off mains water stopcock to house and still can hear whooshing noise in pipes. Checked pipes and stopcocks to filler tank in loft and all ok. Any ideas.

When you say mains water pipes do you mean the cold water supply from the road that provides your drinking water and fills the cold tank in the loft?

It's unusual to get noise here, although I once had a hising noise that came from a leak. It was at a bend buried in the concrete kitchen floor... :(

Whooshing noises are more usually from the central heating pipes, where the water is pushed round by a pump, especially if there are air bubbles in it. This will stop when you turn the heating off.

yes it is from the water supply from the road,it still makes a noise when heating is switched off, i was thinking that there maybe a leak from the mains outside to the house
