Hi guys,

Finally getting stuck into the previously carried out loft conversion which has a mixture of chipboard, floor boards and what looks to be some parts of a kitchen/wardrobe used for flooring! Admittedly, there is no bouce or creaks etc so seems sturdy enough.

Planning on insulating properly (BC invloved) and replacing the floor.
Im told chipboard isnt great and most people wouldnt use it in their own houses, is it really that bad?

In terms of Ply and T&G floor boards, is there much difference in finished floor strength/quality? Joists are mostly 300mm +/- 50mm so no big spans to deal with.

Thanks Neil

T&G chipboard is just fine and will do the job.
It comes in 18mm or 22mm, and in various sized panels and sheets - go with manageable panels due to getting them into the loft.

Mark your joist positions - snap chalk lines - and screw them down.

Anyone heard of or used smartply?

Guy locally is selling what he has from left over project, cheaper than ply but still more than chip.. Looks like T&G OSB?
