What size engine is it?
the 1.4 polo is 6 degrees btdc @ 1500 rpm.
The rest of the timing is controlled by the ecu.

its a 1300 if that helps cheers, im gonna have to explain what you said and im sure he would understand but whats (btdc & controlled by the ecu."cheers

for the 1300 its 5 degrees Before Top Dead Centre @ 750 rpm
Basic ignition timing is all you can do as the rest is controlled electronically by various sensors and the ECU (electronic control unit)

Find out what sort of problems he's having with it and i'll try and point you in the right direction

Unless it's the valve timing? Or setting the clock(sorry) ?

cheers neo just spoke to him and he's got it sorted, he ended up getting a book and i quote (not word for word) there was a mark on the top bit but not on the other bit so they got the book and a small pully has to line up with the other if that makes any sense ;)
