Polycarbonate balustrade

I have a raised platform which needs a handrail/balustrade. I would prefer this to be clear polycarbonate or glass so the garden and bird table is visible thro' it. Has anyone any experience of this?

1: Which is most economical - glass or polycarbonate ?

2:If I decide on polycarbonate, what thickness do I need? (largest piece is 1200x1000mm)

I think the glass would look better and last longer.

Polycarb will sound like you have Rolf Harris playing in the garden.

Acrylic may be a better option as it is thicker, but consider cost over life expectancy
