Pop-up waste query.

Hi guys

Would somebody kindly confirm the purpose of the small rubber washer on the pop-up waste pushrod, please. Should it be tucked down inside the body of the tap to reduce any lateral movement of the rod?

Without seeing the back of the tap it’s hard to tell but 99.9999% sure it should be if I was to take a guess lol

They are there just as a little seal to stop the water running down the rod and rusting the rod connections lower down, it should sit inside the tap body but as it gets older invariably it doesn't stay in there.
