Just upgraded a bathroom and wash basin will not hold water.Tried two different valves and made sure that bottom of valve is clear of the operating rod.Is it possible to distort the wash basin seat if over tightened during assembly.Never heard of this before, any advice appreciated as getting bathroom fitter back tomorrow and dont want him blaming the basin design!!!!!!!!!!

Think we are on same wave length, even when push up waste pushed down water still leaking away so must be getting between chrome seating and wash basin. If so would this leakage find its way to the drain pipe as no sign of any exterior leakage? Is there a seal between chrome seating ring and the wash basin?

Take out the pop up and you will see a nut which you can open and close until you get the right seating for your waste and it seals.

Tighten with a spanner at correct level. :D

As before the pop up is well away from the actuating rod already. Its not the seating of the pop up in the waste, its the seal between the waste and the basin. Is there a seal here.

did you use the supplied washer? they are Sh*te!

i always use clear silicone round the fitting push home and screw on base
then wipe excess away with DRY tissue paper not had one leak for a long time.

Take chrome waste out of sink remove the washers and discard.Apply silicone to underside of waste and bed into sink. Once in place apply silicone on the underside of the sink between the threaded part and the sink. Repalce the nut and tighten. Don't run water down the basin until silicone has dried.

don't discard both the washers as plumbnut suggest just the top one that goes between fitting and sink as the bottom one is usually shaped rubber and is normally ok

Removed waste and rubber washer.Put the silicon seal as advised and replaced waste.Hurray the sink is now holding the water. Thanks for the good advice all
