Hi there,
I'm wiring some ip65 downlights into my porch soffit. I have an existing cable that was there for the light on the wall and was just wandering if any of you fine experienced gents could post a wiring diagram on here for me so i know i'll be doing it right. I have a twin and earth to start with which is on a 5A fused spur so it's just a case of checking i have the right circuit. Thanks in advance guys.[/b]

If you dont understand this then you should not be doing ANY electrical work.

Are you really just asking how to connect two lights to an existing cable?

I hope this isnt a wind-up, but I'll play along.

Is it your idea that you should be given instructions to insert-this-wire-in-that-hole so that you can do electrical work without actually understanding what you're doing?

I know how to connect two lights to an existing cable. I forgot to add, i'm also wiring a pir sensor then the two downlights to it. I have a diagram that i have drawn up, i can't seem to load it, i just thought i would double check on here to make sure and to introduce myself to what i thought was a friendly site and forum. I have been met with a degree of hostility however to which i am not overly impressed with. I have a knowledge of basic electrics and thought that this falls in that bracket. Apologies if i have offended anyone with my general question......

Thanks for nothing guys. Some forum this is. Way to make someone new feel welcome.

Well, if you had told us the whole story then you would have got a whole answer.

I have spent enough of my spare time being helpful given the information that YOU provided, nobody gets PAID for contributing to this.

If you want a PIR it goes in between the existing cable and the first light on my sketch. There will be a diagram when u buy the thing.

The highly skilled electricians on this forum are all too aware that electricity cannot be seen or smelled. Only its effects can be seen or felt. Unfortunately those effects can often prove fatal to those who choose to get involved in things of which their comprehension is lacking.

This is what everyone posting on this forum wants to avoid, and that is why some posts unequivocally advise contacting a qualified electrician.

This is especially the case where the poster displays a (potentially) dangerous lack of knowledge and understanding, where to proceed could result in injury or even death.

It is very, very rare for anyone (even a "troll") posting a question to be insulted or belittled; the safety of the poster and those around him is of foremost concern.
