Potterton 12e system boiler.

Hi, hope you can help.

I bought a medium sized detached house around 3 years ago. It has the potterton performa 12e system boiler fitted. From the start I found that the house takes ages to heat up (talking hours here!). The radiators are not really hot untill the system has been running for about 30-45 mins. As a result I have had to leave my heating on 24hrs a day for the last 3 years and as you can imagine with the latest price increase........

Is it the wrong boiler or does it sound as if there is a fault?

Your boiler provides just over 12kW output.

Go to Sedbuk and use their Recommended Boiler Size calculator. This will answer the first part of your question.

If it is OK, you will need to provide more info about your system. The more the better

Look at your radiators. Use a standard list to estimate their outputs . They may all be a bit small.
Do they get really hot when the heating has been on for say half an hour?

Yeah they are too hot too touch but only after about 30-45 mins. My mums radiators are roasting in only about 10mins, but hers is a combi boiler so im not sure if this is why hers heat more quickly.

i am most interested in how quick the radiators should heat up. If the radiators are the wrong size there is not much i will do about it, im more interested in if there sounds as if there is a problem with the boiler or the pump!

Does not sound much wrong with 30 mins to me. Will depend on the pipe sizing etc.

You could have your boiler checked over/serviced. This will see if it is running correctly at the right output and if not why not.
