I guess by about 8-10 weeks, fitted as part of a complete CH system, spoke to plumber who fitted it who suggested I contact them and `try` and get them to repair under guarantee.

Any chance???

The water temperature has just started to fluctuate. Heating is OK.

Assuming the worse..... does it sound expensive??

Thanks in advance

Steve

What's the serial number of the boiler?

Can you expand on what the problem actually is?

Thanks for the reply.

The Boiler is a Combi HE Plus
Ser No. AWA 051950196 AB

The water gets hot as usual, then after 30 seconds or so goes much cooler, in the shower for instance, you have to step out of the water after another 30 seconds or so it gets hot again. Same with the taps.

The display on the boiler goes up to 90 (then drops back) yet the max for hot water it says is 80.

possibly a blocked plate heat exchanger ?
prob need replacing (as opposed to cleaning}

Thinks ChrisR,

I assume it`s like doing work on a car.

Success is measured by how many bits you have left over after you have finished.... (;0)

If you are having to replace a plate heat exchanger on a boiler under two years old, you may well have an underlying problem.
For example it could be scale or sludge, this needs to be addressed or 18 months down the line......

So would I be better off joining the £12 a month scheme offered by british gas and hope the initial service that`s included solves this problem?

What are my chances of getting Potterton to repair it under guarantee??

Thanks

None, they don't send out boilers scaled or sludged up :!:

Plus your boiler will be two years old in May

Heateam will do a repair with a 12 month guarentee, but again scale (or system problems) are not covered

BG cover everything, but check the small print!

I dont think you are right there.

My understanding is that, apart from some very old contracts, none of the BG ones cover sludge or dirt in the system. They will charge extra to powerflush usually £500-£600.

If you take their powerflush then they will guarantee it against sludge into the future.

I am a little confused.

The whole CH system was only fitted in nov 2005, hence the boiler is only a few weeks out of guarantee.

What are the chances of it being more than a simple problem and if it s what could have caused it?

Thanks

Perhaps they have not explained it clearly enough.

The symptoms are typical of a plate HE blocked with dirt.

That is not the boiler makers responsibility, its not his dirt!

Its caused by a cheap installer who did not bother to clean the system properly if at all.

You will have to fix it yourself or pay for someone to do it for you.
