Any help or second opinion appreciated on behalf of an aged friend's old Potterton Flamingo 50S boiler, no history of problems.

Boiler serviced 2 months ago by heating engineer, all working fine.
There is a room thermostat in the hallway in the house. Engineer turned up thermosat temperature on the boiler for the winter.

Boiler now won't switch off. Heating all the time and hot water too hot to touch.

Engineer thinks thermostat needs replacing.

Any temporary measures please? Any way to reset the thermostat?

Also are parts available and worth fitting? Thank you

Yes if it is the boiler thermostat they are still available but I would check that the thermostat control shaft is actually turning as its very common with these for just the knob to turn without actually moving anything on the thermostatm easy test try turning it , it should stop at 0 and max and you should hear a click somewhere in betwen if it just goes right round chances are its just a control knob it needs
