Hi,we have a potterton housewarmer back boiler which has worked fine for a few years now.Recently we have had a problem with it.Very often,in fact more and more often as time goes by it will not light up.You can hear it clicking trying to ignite but then it lights up red on the side (lockout) and we have to press the reset button. Then it will attempt to light again and usually fails this goes on till eventually it lights! Then it will heat our radiators and hot water for a few hours then-back to lock out again!I don't know if its related to the fire front?but sometimes it seems it wont light if we have the fire on?Then if we turn the fire off it will seem to light after first a few failed attempts!I wonder what the problem is?We had the same problem in the past and we had to have the entire boiler changed as they were not sure what the problem was.Obviously at some time we will have to have the boiler engineer in again but we would like to know what the problem is please??Are they a faulty boiler?Im not sure in the past if there was talk it was the pcb?but im sure we had that replaced to no avail.Someone told me the ht lead may need sleeving?Does that sound right/make sense? Please help me out with this it is making our family life a misery!Mainly as we argue amongst our selves what the actual problem is!My father has suggested it is overheating but that can't be right can it?Not if it is not lighting from start (if it hasn't been on why would it overheat??)Please help us out here!If nothing else just to solve the argument, many thanks to all that respond.

Could well be a dodgy electrode / wire. I have had this problem with a customers boiler, the burner lights momentarily and then goes out.. The bad news is that you will need a Corgi to replace it as the lead cannot be replaced with the fire in place... May as well get it serviced whilst it is all apart

Not a common boiler.

Blocked pilot, flame rectification fault or (very unlikey PCB). I presume you have an annual service on the boiler?

Easy to service but any neglect with cause the faults you describe.

Rip it out & convert to a combi, cost about 2 grand & will be a lot safer than the deathtrap you are currently using.
