Potterton Kingfisher cutting out

I have had an ongoing problem with my boiler. On a daily basis the boiler will shut itself down and I have to press the reset button on the front, then it will work fine and heats the house well for about a day then shut itself off again. The boiler has a magnaclean attached to it which is dirty inside when last checked. I think that the boiler is about 8 years old.

So far what has been done to the system is to change the pump, change the overheat stat and a power flush. This has made no difference.

I am now being recommended to either change the heat exchange or to get a new boiler. Anyone any ideas if these sound sensible, or could the problem lie somewhere else?

Unfortunately we would need a lot more information to be able to offer any useful suggestions based on your actual problem rather than just guesses.

What do those who have diagnosed those works have to say when implementing them have not solved the problem?

What calibre of person were they?

They (I have had two different plumbers over already) say that it is a circulation problem, and that if all those measures already taken have not sorted out the problem then it must be the heat exchanger which is clogged up. One said he contacted Potterton and said they advised him that it was a problem with the heat exchange. The other is recommending to change the boiler because he says that it is old already.

As for calibre I am not sure, they were qualified plumbers who were corgi registered, one said he had 17 years experience, if the average uk plumber is competent then they were probably competent, but not being a plumber it is hard to judge.
