Hello does anyone know if I need a specialised plumber to service the above boiler or if any plumber can do the job?

I live in Surrey not far from M25, Junction 10, and would like to find a good plumber who knows what he/ she is doing, as we have 2 such boilers connected to different parts. One for the granny flat and one for the main house.

any recommendations?

Thank you. Please reply to **********

Thanks again

You dont need a plumber, you need a gas registered boiler engineer.

Particularly one who understands your boiler and its dangers!

As Agile says, you need a gas safe registered boiler engineer.

Your boilers have been know to rot through on the back of combustion chamber, and needs checking when serviced/ worked on also heat exchanger seals prone to leaking, if i remember correctly this contributed to the back panel rotting, i think it is alsp a positive fanned flue, which make any holes ten times worse as it will push the POC's back into your room

Also think about reolacing them they are old, parts are not readily available and it will almost deffinately go on the coldest day of the year when you need it most, you must of had it atleast 20 years, it ows you nothing, i suggest you part while still on good terms

I'm a stone's throw up the A3 from you and know these boilers well.

Don't undo anything. Run round the outside of the case seals with a Jos stick or similar and see if there's any sign of disturbance of the smoke. If there is, turn the boiler off before it kills you.

If there's not, buy a good Carbon monoxide detector and put it near the boiler, and hope it stays quiet.

Would I service your boiler(s)?. Sorry, no.
Mend one, possibly.

Another less than helpful posting by a Mad Mod.

What he should have asked you to do is to put your email and/or telephone number in your profile so that anyone can contact you but dont put it within your actual posting. They are trying to protect you from harvesting of email addresses to be used to send you smap emails offering viagra etc.

Chris has a Netaheat himself so I dont know why he is reluctant to service them. Perhaps its because disturbing them by a service gives rise to an increased chance of a failure and as some parts are no longer available that can mean the end of the boiler.

The case seals are less likely to leak if the boiler has not been opened but that corrosion of the back panel can happen at any time. I find that its usually the lower left rear.

Thats a serious safety issue so a careful service/safety check every few years is always a good idea. A possible way to identify leakage is by placing a cold mirror in the vincinity of a possible case leak and look for condensation but never rely on any non professional test as a gas analyser is the professional tool to be used.
