Re. Potterton Performa 28

The hot water works okay but when its time for the central heating to kick it, it fails along with the water. Basically, the flame will not ignite and the light just keeps flashing (fault 4 in the manual). Ive tried resetting it but to no avail.

I have now switched the boiler just to hot water and I havent had to reset it once, so its definately the central heating which is making it trip.

I have spoken to someone today, who said that it sounds like the diverter valve, which is apparently VERY expensive!

He is going to come round to look at it tomorrow and just wondered if anyone could give me any advice? What costs to expect or whether it could be anything different! I just dont want to get taken for a ride thats all.

Would really appreciate some help! Thanks

fault 4 ? what does it say in the user guide for this fault. do u mean the fourth led

Fault 4 indicates a flame ingnition fault.

The pressure reads 0.5 when doing nothing and goes up to just below the 1 when I run the hot tap.

Pressurise the boiler to just above 1 when 'it is doing nothing'. It will rise to anything up to 2 when ch on and rads are hot.

The engineer has just been round and upped the bar abit.

He seems to think that it could be the thermistor to the central heating/hot water side.

Can you let me know please if that sounds about right?
