Just over 15 months months after installation of the new boiler (in Feb of this year) I noticed that ignition was causing a small explosion of gas followed by a vibration of the casing. The boiler then failed to ignite at all.

It was found that the rear insulation panel in the combustion chamber had fallen away. It was apparent that the insulation panel had bowed inwards (presumably caused by differential temperatures and/or moisture levels on the inner and outer faces) and, because it is only secured by the side insulation panels only and has no additional clips, had fallen onto the burner.

Has anyone experienced any similar problem.

It amuses me when people ask if anyone else has experienced a problem.

Those of us who spend all their time fixing boilers have encountered most problems at some time or other.

I have not seen that on your model yet but I have seen something more amusing. The boiler was not serviced and an internal leak went unnoticed and ended up filling up the combustion chamber with water. It was only 18 months old and was so badly corroded that the whole boiler had to be replaced!

A friend of mine in North West London/Herts has had two of these faults. He put the Panels back in and put a dab of powermax flue sealant on the rear to hold them in. The strange thing was they occurred within days of the Hemel Hempstead oil terminal explosion happening..Scary hey
