I want to build some poured concrete steps so I can have a rear entrance to the garage (entrance will be cut afterwards). You can see the site below. The height will be 850mm (patio height to DPC), width from back to patio 1600mm.

1, My plan is to level the site. The soil here is clay and very compact - How deep should I go with the footings?
2, is it necessary to attach rebar to the garage wall? if so, how much?

I'd also welcome an additional advice from people who have attempted similar projects.

Is there a reason why you want to do it that way rather than build the steps from brick to match the wall

When I started digging this out yesterday, I was thinking the same thing. The soil is wetter than I thought and near the garage very soft, so pouring a ton of concrete on there feels like a bad idea.

What depth footings would I need for a brick construction?

Not a brickie and others may disagree but I would have thought 4 inches would be ample once you get down to firm ground
