hi

i am having an old economy 10 meter removed which, through a timer, then through an old style trip switch feeds an immersion heater.

i wanted to use this supple to run a worcester bosch boiler (2.5mm T&E). call for heat will be by a wireless controller and roomstat.

Now, i am planning on extending the cable through a suitable juncton box where the trip switch is now, back to the CU and installing a suitable MCB/RCD.

that way when the meter is removed, i dont have to get them to worry about wiring it back in to the CU, and i know it is all properly protected.

I have looked on the worcester web site, and the boiler specs (junior 24i greenstar) doesnt show the current draw of the boiler.

Can anyone tell me what it would be likely to pull, obviously not more than 27amps (2.5mm T&E max current capacity). i am thinking a 16A RCD or MCB.

also, which side of the CU would i fit this on?? The RCD protected side which supplies the sockets and the shower, or the other side which feeds the lights and the cooker??

any help appreciated!!

cheers

george

Most gas boilers require a 3A fuse (24i included).

So, you could run a radial in 2.5mm from the consumer unit (protected by a 16A CB) and terminate the circuit on a FCU with a 3A fuse.

As this is a new circuit and if the cables are concealed less than 50mm from the surface then you have no choice - it must be protected by a 30mA RCD.

Oh yes, and dont forget to notify the works to the local authority before you start.

thanks Taylortwocities!!

so i can run the T&E from a junction, where the old trip is, box into the a 16A MCB on the RCD protected side of the CU?

the plumber is going to fit a FCU uo in the airing cupboard which the boiler supply will be wired into.

thanks mate
