PowerMax 140 won't ignite

Thanks Ollski - he's very kindly come back to me saying it will be £185 all in - which seems fair enough if the part's a ton.

I do think I'll have to take the spent part back to Potterton/Baxi though as this is only just out of NHBC warranty and surely an electronic part should not fail within 2.3 years? (I know they do and will but they shouldn't should they?)

Next time, it's a Vaillant or a Viessman if I get the chance to put something in. Or maybe a Saunier Duval if I really push the boat out

your nhbc warranty dosnt cover your boiler, it covers the building of your house.....your boiler warranty will be either 1 year or 2 depending on which company built your home.

Yes, the Main part NHBC expired in March but I think it's worth a shout asking. Things have got to be merchantable haven't they, unless this part would be deemed a consumable?

i agree the valve should of lasted longer, however companies only give 1/2 year warranties for a reason. you ould try, but i dont think it will get you anywhere.....

Bath has considerable salts in the water particularly gypsum if I remember correctly.

I presume you are talking about the plate heat exchanger about the size of a big pack of butter.

If so they CAN be cleaned but its easier and more expensive to replace them.

Have you got a magnetic water treatment device on the cold water inlet pipe?

Tony

PS Whats Neasden to do with it?

Recently had a Combimate-esque inhibitor fitted. Not sure, but there looks to be another factory fitted (maybe magnetic) device installed internally too.

The HE is more like 2 packs of butter side by side but yes, I was told they were cleanable, but these were so caked it was untrue. Are there firms who can clean/recondition them or can it be a DIY thing (and how do you do it)?

Funny you should say that about the Limestone/gypsum round here, DIA wa adamant he'd never witnessed any and he's only 10 or so miles away.

Neasden - Is my geography failing me? I thought that's where you were based out of (NW10)?

BTW The guy who came today is AIPHE and TnIDHEE and the missus said he seemed really competent. Hopefully I've done well - I'll see if I have hot water tomorrow afternoon!

Well from 10 miles away he would not be able to see it very well!

NW10 includes Willesden as well !

Well he is only an Associate IPHE and a Trainee IDHEE so think how competent he will be when he is a full member of both!!!

Tony

Harsh Tony, very harsh. We can't all have PhDs now can we.

Besides which, T stands for Technician (as you probably know, I'm sure). He specialises in Vaillant installs and was extolling the virtues of Viessman with me (he'd installed a few and been on their course) had clearly been around a while. More to the point, he answered the phone and turned up when he said he would which are admirable traits if not necessarily the sign of a true craftsman. You should see the state of this boiler though, it looks like Marvin the paranoid android after he''s been stuffed in a crusher - a deplorably complicated, ugly and dodgy looking thing.

Probably no more competent at all, not a ringing endorsement for trade clubs.

Hot water is working. Old PCB left as requested so that I can have a pop at the builder. Completed all relevant documentation. Didn't hang around (20 minutes), arrived when he said he would and left the place nice and tidy.

Gave some good advice re the scale inhibitor I've got too. Thumbs up to this bloke.
